Welcome on board!
Recruitment through Referrals: There Are Other Ways
Our long-time partner, Valeo, asked us to create a creative campaign for their employees to raise awareness of their innovative referral program. How did we accomplish this task? Read in this post.
Assignment
The 3 Main Pillars of the Referral Program Were Given:
- Valeo offers a cash bonus for recommending a new employee (only from THP)
- The employee receives the bonus as soon as the recommended candidate shows up for a personal interview
- A draw for a special prize – the more candidates you recommend, the greater your chance of winning
Our task was to incorporate everything into various static formats and animations. And to make matters worse, the conditions, and therefore the information (and language), were slightly different for each Valeo branch.
Implementation
When it came to creativity, we had a relatively free hand and could “let it all out.” We started with a morning-long brainstorming session, which yielded the first ideas.
We have divided the content of the message into 3 layers:
1.
Context and Main Idea
2.
Why Recommend a Friend
3.
What Will I Get
1. Context and Main Idea
- We were intrigued by Valeo’s existing claim: Smart technology for smarter mobility
- This inspired us and our thoughts continued to develop: Smart technologies need smart teams > Smart teams need smart people > Your team needs smart people
2. Why Recommend a Friend
- You will work with someone you know, someone you studied with, worked with, or a friend you get along with
- We highlighted mutual trust as the main advantage – a circle of trust
- And also a little vanity – a smarter team thanks to smart people like you
3. What Will I Get
- Finally, we wanted to communicate the financial benefits, because money is always the first thing
- Interview reward – you will get a small reward right at the beginning
- Summer competition to be drawn – and something extra thanks to a fun lottery
- Final reward for success – you will get a big bonus after a year of joining the recommended
Creative Processing
Mobility is a key theme associated with the Valeo brand.
This theme led us to these thoughts: Mobility means travel. And if you want to travel, you have to “board”, in other words, you have to get on board.
The word “onboarding” is also associated with the arrival of a new colleague at work.
And you usually go on a journey with people you know and trust.
From this came On Board. This is how we got the central theme for processing into specific outputs.
We continuously consulted our creative ideas with colleagues from Valeo, who added their thoughts to them and so we constantly moved the theme forward.
From the various proposals, the motif of an airplane, a pilot, a stewardess and a conversation between them won.
Our graphic designer Jana then conjured up the first prototypes.
After several corrections, the first print version was created, which we then processed into all the necessary formats. But we didn’t stop there.
For the animated formats, we sketched out a script that the graphic designer animated. The result was a colorful animation that ran on the screens of the Prague branch of Valeo.
The idea was so successful that other European branches of Valeo want to adopt it.

Gábor Iffland
National Communication Director, Valeo
“Valeo was pleased to work with your agency on an internal campaign for our referral program. Thanks to your creative concept and effective internal communication through printed posters, screens, intranet and emails, we achieved great results.
Within three months, we received more than 30 new candidates referred, of whom more than half were successful and received a job offer. In addition, we observed a 30% increase in the number of offers generated through referrals during the competition period. Thank you for this cooperation, which helped us to increase awareness of our referral program among employees.”
